Hello to all community members.
Some 6 years ago I have started to think about the future of Internet. Before that, I have seen gruesome sites, content, totally exposed to anyone. I've started to think why does someone want to have it online and the simple answer is "freedom of speech", even for the most brutal things you can imagine.
Question about the content is not denying someone's freedom but stopping criminal activities before those occur. Also, that security is crucial to split the content of common interest from rubbish. Think about who is on the receiving side. Users are there to get news, learn, educate themselves and that will totally get misused if the current setup continues.
I am not offering now any solution, and would rather appreciate starting the topic to figure out the way how to do it. That said, don't want to rush with the sudden influx of ideas, but setting up grounds to build NGI as we need and deserve.
The way how I see it, we have to consider the following things as the base:
1) Availability
2) Content
3) Security
All these factors are to run around user/consumer, because that's the purpose from day one. Let me elaborate a bit more.
AVAILABILITY. There are still parts of the world, even within Europe (incl. developed countries) where connectivity is poor or non-existing and users don't have a chance to use Internet. Is Starlink the solution? Do we need to bring classic broadband? Shall we consider utilizing full power of 5G through services like iOnline? Shall we make it fully decentralized? I don't have the answer, so raising this first topic to cover our whole population.
CONTENT. As mentioned in the opening statement, it is degrading, getting all sorts of trash that doesn't benefit society as a whole. Children need proper entertainment and top build education. Youngsters want to recognize their talents, so need a way how to do it. Adults want to do business, innovate, improve, relax, enjoy, entertain. Any age, from 4y to 104y old requires the right content to fulfill their time and activities, and we need to understand what it is, how to develop, how to protect it, and how to ensure it will grow naturally for the benefit of the humankind.
SECURITY. This is a never-ending story. The more we use internet today, it becomes more vulnerable, unpredictable, easy to misuse and this requires our full attention. Is decentralization the real solution? Can we do it differently? Any ideas?
Finally, we all are USER. What do we all want to see? What do we need to experience? What does the Internet mean for us to make it better for the future? What do we want to leave to our children and their children?
I am listening and am calling all of you to join to make a sense out of it. Let's talk internally, bring this to valid social networks, including friends, business partners, people we follow and who follow us.
Delaying to build NGI is just prolonging what is inevitable, therefore let's act and make it happen.
