DMA: rules to ensure open markets start to apply

📢 The EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) has come into effect.📢

Potential gatekeepers who meet the specified quantitative thresholds have until July 3rd to notify their core platform services to the European Commission. The Commission will then have 45 working days, until September 6th, 2023, to determine if the company meets the thresholds and designate them as gatekeepers.

Once set, gatekeepers will have six months, until March 6th, 2024, to comply with the requirements outlined in the DMA.

✨The DMA aims to ensure a fair and competitive digital market. Gatekeepers are large online platforms with significant power, acting as intermediaries between businesses and consumers. Their influence can result in them effectively creating and enforcing private rules that impede competition in the digital economy✨

To address these concerns, the DMA establishes a set of obligations that gatekeepers must adhere to, including prohibiting specific behaviours outlined in a list of do's and don'ts.

Curious about how the DMA will bring fairer conditions to consumers and businesses for digital services across the EU?
