EU Public Sector Open Source Achievement Awards

In a bold move towards recognizing and celebrating the power of open-source technology, the European Commission's Open Source Observatory (OSOR) has recently unveiled an exciting initiative - The EU Public Sector Open Source Achievement Awards.

To honour exceptional open-source initiatives and solutions developed for European public services, these awards acknowledge exemplary contributions and serve as a platform to advocate and promote open-source software (OSS) usage in the public sector.

The OSOR Awards have been established to commend organizations and teams implementing open-source solutions within public administrations or spearhead initiatives that advance open-source technology within public services.

This broad scope includes public administrations at all levels, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and third-sector organizations that play a vital role in the functioning of public services. Collaborative efforts between businesses and public-sector bodies are also acknowledged, provided they have jointly worked on developing solutions.

The awards are divided into two categories, each designed to spotlight and celebrate the best of open-source initiatives👇

✅ EU Public Sector Open Source Achievement Award (Jury's Choice): This category will be decided by a panel of experts who will evaluate and select the most impactful and innovative projects demonstrating the remarkable potential of open source solutions in public services.

✅ OSOR Community Award (Public Choice): The power shifts to the public in this category. OSOR users and the general public, via the Joinup platform, will cast their votes to determine the winner. This is an exciting opportunity for the community to voice their support for their favourite open-source projects and initiatives.

✨The OSOR Awards provide recognition and promise networking opportunities and potential avenues for further development for the selected projects. This platform is a golden opportunity for organizations and individuals to exhibit their exceptional open-source solutions that have the potential to transform public administrations across Europe.✨

The anticipation will build up to the announcement of the winners, scheduled to take place on November 21, 2023, at OSOR's anniversary conference titled "Open Source Observatory Turns 15: from pioneering to mainstreaming open technologies in public services."

The event is set to attract stakeholders from EU Member States, European Institutions, open-source communities, associations, and businesses.

The launch of The EU Public Sector Open Source Achievement Awards marks a pivotal moment in acknowledging the significance of open-source technology in public services. It's an opportunity for innovators and enthusiasts to make their mark and for the broader community to participate and recognize the game-changing potential of open-source solutions.

As the deadline for submissions approaches, the stage is set to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and the indomitable spirit of open-source technology in shaping the future of public services in Europe. So, if you're a part of this revolution or wish to support it, mark your calendars and spread the word.
