👋Dear NGI-er:
Did you know the NGI Commons initiative creates a digital and Internet commons strategy?
A few days ago, in Brussels, its General Assembly gathered experts and partners to assess progress and set the path forward. As the initiative nears its first anniversary, its work is bringing structure to an area often overlooked but essential to the future of digital resources.
Discussions addressed mapping existing commons communities, measuring the impact of funding, and aligning grassroots activities with policy priorities, and a new toolkit was introduced to better track progress, demonstrating a practical approach to building a stronger framework for digital commons.
The meeting also included a session with NGI Policy Officers, who highlighted the role of platforms like Mastodon and Peertube in supporting decentralised, user-driven tools. The assembly concluded with plans for the NGI Policy Summit 2025, designed to connect different stakeholders and refine strategies for a more coherent funding landscape.
