The NGI initiative was present at the 14th and latest edition of the Wolves Summit, the benchmark event for deep tech startups in Central and Eastern European countries (CEE).
The event, which was held in a hybrid format in Wroclaw (Poland) and online, was attended by 2087 participants from 60 countries. This year’s edition brought more diverse session formats and dedicated stages for hosting external events and workshops as part of the wider Wolves Summit agenda.
One of the NGI highlights at the summit was a virtual session featuring NGI Innovators who have been beneficiaries of the NGI Research and Innovation Actions’ funding schemes. The NGI innovators were able to pitch their innovations in a dedicated section of the Great Pitch Contest, which is the Wolves Summit’s startup competition.
The selected innovators were able to present the jury technologies that improve search and discovery, privacy-enhancing technologies, blockchain technologies to fight misinformation, better data governance, NGI experiments with US teams, and many more which were highlighted at the NGI booths.

The Next Generation Internet dedicated panel at Wolves Summit 2021 to present the initiative and the innovations brought by it. The panel was hosted by Gemma Carolillo, Deputy Head of the Next Generation Internet Unit at the European Commission and Monique Calisti, head of the NGI Outreach Office. They introduced the NGI initiative, its purposes and goals.
Then the floor was all for the real protagonists of the Next Generation Internet. As stated by Carolillo, “NGI is made up by our innovators”. Therefore it was the turn of the innovators themselves: Igor Farinic from NGI TRUST/NGI TETRA; Jurij Skornik, from NGI LEDGER/NGI Atlantic; and Zenna Fiscella from NGI Pointer, who was also live on the stage in Wroclaw.
The Wolves Summit audience was able to see the feasible results of the NGI Research and Innovation Actions, in the form of the gossiping protocol Scuttlebut 2.0, the open source platform MidPoint by Evolveum, and the decentralised knowledge graph brought by Trace Labs.

In addition to the session with innovators and the thematic panel on the funding possibilities of projects for the Next Generation Internet, NGI was present at the Wolves Summit with both online and onsite booths.
Onsite in Wroclaw, we had the opportunity to present the initiative face-to-face to SMEs and startups that are interested in technological development with a human-centric approach. We were able to present the project, its benefits and outputs to people and companies based in Central and Eastern Europe.

In parallel, this year we also hosted a virtual booth where all the material related to the NGI initiative, its projects and the innovators who have developed their ideas thanks to NGI funds was on display. Furthermore, in the virtual booth we had live sessions about Cascade Funding in NGI-related topics and a presentation about the NGI Online Community, among other live contents.
Besides, our team was 100% connected to the event's networking channels, thanks to which many attendees learned what NGI and its purpose are. A specific channel was also enabled in the NGI Community as a parallel chat about the event and what was happening in it.
