The Next Generation Internet Community: a year in figures

One full year has:

➡️ 365 days
➡️ 8760 hours
➡️ 525600 minutes
➡️ 31536000 seconds...
...and so on and so forth.

However, it is not these figures that I came here to break down today. 2021 has been a pivotal year for the Next Generation Internet initiative, as people have continued to need to stay connected to take care of each other, to work, and to enjoy part of their free time online. And, thanks to NGI, in a more people-centric and trusted way.

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) Community has been no exception to this trend and has continued to grow steadily. These are the numbers that define our community, but it is the people behind it what truly matters. Thank you for being here!

Well done, NGI Community, because in 2021…

• 340 new members have joined the community and a total of 2964 people have interacted with our content. We grow together!
• Members have sent 450 messages in the period from 1st January to 31st December 2021. That’s a real conversation!
• 17 posts have been added to a new Wiki Section, with the purpose of guiding and supporting your path across the different community spaces and collections. Have you already had a look at them?
• 1 new homepage (well, it’s not an impressive number, but we didn’t need more…). We revamped the homepage to make it more attractive and NGI-looking. Check it out here: how cute is it? 🤩
• 19 survey responses were collected to gather your inputs for improvement. We did our best to find the best ways to implement your suggestions. But, hey, we are still open to receive feedback from our members, so have your say!

If we speak about type of content:

• 100 News and Announcements were published across all community spaces. That is A-LOT of NGI-related articles, interesting news, posts and community announcements. NGIers seem to have a lot to tell others!
• But, wait… That is not all AT ALL. No less than 111 events were registered to the community calendar during 2021. Most of them were online… unfortunately for some of us… and luckily to some others! 😅
• 48 single images were shared. Indeed, we are in the age of image.

And collections:

• 8 NGI Talks were published. NGI Talks, a series of webinars and online sessions with NGI Ambassadors, were also complemented with their radio sibling, the NGI POINTER podcast. The family is growing!
• 12 new related communities were included in this collection, so the NGI Community members can expand their network in related initiatives and projects.
• But, let’s be honest, funding opportunities are a core feature of the NGI projects under the NGI Community. 15 open calls from NGI projects were published in 2021! 🎶Money, money, money! 🎶

And what about community Spaces?

• Our members are mad about Self-Sovereign Identity! NGI eSSIF-lab was the most active space within the NGI Community: 31 posts were published there along the year! Woooow!
• We created a new Category, NGI Live Chat, basically to gossip while attending NGI events. 🤪 We made an experiment for the NGI Forum 2021, and a pilot with NGI @ Wolves Summit 2021.

We do not know exactly what 2022 will bring to the NGI Community and to the Next Generation Internet initiative overall. What we know is that the NGI community team will be behind the screens putting all our efforts to make it better every day; every year!
