In early November, Bangkok became a hub for the Web3 community. Two major events—the 7th Ethereum-focused conference and Thailand Blockchain Week 2024—ran from November 6th to 16th, drawing participants from around the globe.
✨Members of the WID3+ Consortium were on-site, making strides on the Authbond project, supported by Trustchain NGI OC3.✨
Mentoring at Design Jam Bangkok
Victoria and Ben from the WID3+ Consortium were mentors during Design Jam Bangkok, a two-day event bringing developers and researchers together to tackle Web3 challenges. The Consortium presented a design challenge centred on Human-Centric Grantee Contract Management, encouraging participants to rethink KYC processes and milestone payments for grant operators.
Participants shared their experiences with grant funding and discussed issues such as difficulties faced by smaller projects, lack of transparency in evaluations, and how to track impact better. By mentoring, Victoria and Ben offered their expertise and gained insights to improve the Authbond project.
Connecting at Devcon SEA
At Devcon SEA, Ben joined the Grants & Impact Community Hub to collaborate with funders, grantees, and others involved in Web3 grants. Over four days, conversations revolved around the challenges of diverse funding criteria, best practices for transparent grants, and the broader Web3 funding landscape.
These discussions helped the Consortium better understand the issues faced by stakeholders and provided ideas for how Authbond could streamline grant management and funding processes.
Authbond Prototype at Sui Demo Day
After two weeks of work at the Sui Hacker House Bangkok, the Consortium presented the Authbond prototype at Sui Demo Day. The prototype, built on the Sui blockchain, demonstrated its potential for managing on-chain bounties. While still in development, it marks an important step toward creating a functional tool for decentralised funding.
Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead
The Trustchain funding provided more than just financial support; it enabled meaningful collaboration and community involvement. Earlier in the program, the Consortium developed WID3, a decentralised identity management platform, in partnership with the University of Malta. With Authbond, the focus has shifted to improving how grants are managed in the Web3 space.
“During the Bangkok events, we learned a lot about the real-world challenges of funding in Web3. Our goal wasn’t to present a perfect solution but to listen and adapt to the ecosystem’s needs. Every conversation helped us refine Authbond,” said Victoria, UI/UX Lead at WID3+ Consortium.
