Woman at the edge of time

🤩 My hero is Marge Piercy because she came with an unheard-of vision of technology in the seventies.

✨She combined the positive aspects of democratisation, energy efficiency and personal knowledge enhancement with a non-invasive commons that had all the characteristics of messy local arrangements, a sort of blockchain-based hippie society full of multi-personal and queer people living hand in hand with what we would term as a full-fledged AI world.✨

Everyone has a Kenner, which is a personal device that is highly secure and gives personal advice that can be followed or not. It is as if she foresaw all the functionalities of the mobile phone. What we need, though, is the commons, the space that we feed with our behaviour and get feedback from. The commons is also the vision of NGI.

🤔Who knows what it will become? And will there be a Kenner?

I believe that the day is not far off when all people will have some tool, call it a wallet, a router, a phone, a crypto mining device (maybe all of that) that runs all computation locally on that device and gives out only contextual, time-limited and scope-based information; a companion to assist you in educating yourself and others in living together on a small planet that is tumbling about in vast space.

The 1976 novel Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy describes this tool in her 'utopia' of a society combining local bio food and resilient communities running on high-tech renewables and distributed ledgers provisioning services. Maybe it was not a utopia but just a vision.

Woman on the Edge of Time is a 1976 novel by American writer Marge Piercy. It is considered a classic of utopian speculative science fiction as well as a feminist classic. The novel was originally published by Alfred A. Knopf. Piercy draws on several inspirations to write this novel, such as utopian studies, technoscience, socialization, and female fantasies. One of Piercy's main inspirations for her utopian novels is Plato's Republic "Republic (Plato)"). Piercy describes the novel as, "if only…"^[1] Piercy even compares Woman on the Edge of Time and another one of her utopian novels He, She, and It when discussing the themes and inspirations behind it.
