The NGI Innovators Meetup at OW2con’25 became a milestone moment for the NGI community, showing how innovators can come together to strengthen the sustainability of the NGI initiative. Rooted in the priorities voiced during the Town Hall Meeting last November, the session drew over 50 participants, filled the room beyond capacity, and kept energy high throughout its 2.5 hours of interactive exchange and the networking lunch kindly hosted by OW2.
The program mixed inspiring keynotes and open discussions, sparking actionable insights and strong connections among innovators, funders, and open-source leaders. Key contributions came from Rob Van Kranenburg, Melanie Rieback, Maxime Corbani, Ruth Cheesley, Alex Garel, and Daniel Thompson-Yvetot, setting the tone for a collaborative and forward-looking debate.
Importantly, the session opened doors for follow-up initiatives, with some key community members and NGI partners interested in stepping in to coordinate next steps beyond the NGI4ALL.E project duration. The community’s commitment to working together is already shaping future activities.
The concluding open forum explored concrete ways to collaborate as innovators, developers, and project leaders. Discussions highlighted both technical opportunities and community-building needs, underlining the critical role of open source and its impact on European technology policy.
This session left participants not only inspired but also motivated to continue shaping NGI as a thriving, open, and collaborative community.
