Digital Commons - a renewed ambition for Europe

Digital commons are non-rivalrous and non-exclusive digital resources defined by shared production, maintenance and governance. Wikipedia, Linux, OpenStreetMap, and Open Food Facts, of which three are European, are some of the most visible examples. Under the right conditions, digital commons contribute to the preservation of the collective control and valuation of data, and consequently to improve the security of digital tools and innovations.

The French Presidency of the Council of the European Union called for a new initiative for digital commons in Europe, to support and accelerate their development as well as their internationalization. It was followed by the announcement of the creation of a task force on digital commons.

In the context of the Digital Assembly 2022, to be held next 21-22 June in a hybrid format, the Next Generation Internet wants to invite you to join the session Digital Commons - a renewed ambition for Europe, with Roberto VIOLA (directeur général, DG CNECT), Mitchell BAKER (CEO, Mozilla Foundation) and Henri VERDIER (Digital ambassador for France).
