About speakers:

Julie Michel joined EURid in January 2017 as Legal Counsel. She mainly provides legal advice on data protection matters, contracts’ negotiation and the launch of new projects. She started her career as Legal Advisor in Intergovernmental Organizations in Brussels and London where she was involved on day to day administration, negotiation of agreements with nations and other IGOs, procurement activities as well as the development of technical assistance programs. She graduated from the University of Louvain in Belgium and holds a LLM in Business Law from the University of Montreal as well as a certificate in Management from Solvay Brussels School.

EURid is the not-for-profit organisation that operates the .eu, .ею and .ευ top-level domains, following a tender process and appointment by the European Commission. EURid works with over 700 accredited registrars. As part of its ongoing commitment to data security, EURid has been certified for the ISO27001 security standard since 2013. BRAHIM BÉNICHOU

Brahim Bénichou is a legal researcher at the KU Leuven Centre for IT and IP Law where he focuses on the legal issues raised by technology and innovation.
He has broad experience in the application and the practical implementation of the GDPR, both in tech and SME environments:

  • as a researcher he participates in projects related hereto, such as the SMOOTH-project (‘data protection for micro-enterprises’) and the TETRA-project (‘data protection by design for tech SMEs’),
  • as Of Counsel in the IP/IT team of the international law firm NautaDutilh, he advised businesses and start-ups on national and international data protection related implementation and assessment issues,
  • as legal consultant, he coordinated company-wide GDPR implementation projects after the entry into force of the GDPR,
  • as founder of the legal tech start-up My Privacy Specialist, he co-developed a legal solution that helps SME's to implement the GDPR in a cost-effective way, tailored to the specific needs of SME's.

The Centre for IT & IP Law is a research center at the Faculty of Law of the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), with currently a staff of over 70 researchers specialized in legal and ethical aspects of IT innovation and intellectual property.
